AHS Hires Community Development Officer

The Aurora Historical Society is pleased to welcome Katherine Conway, Community Development Officer.
The newly-created Community Development Officer position is responsible for community relations development, volunteer development and revenue development for the Aurora Historical Society.
Katherine Conway is an Arts and Art History grad who has over 15 years of development experience; proven record in fundraising especially in the area of and major gifts; excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation skills. Katherine reports to the Curator-Manager, Jennifer Steen. Her duties include:
- Research, develop and initiate innovative and conventional fundraising strategies, to ensure capital and annual operating needs are met.
- Cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective donors.
- Ensure all fundraising activities are in compliance with funding sources, common practices, organization guidelines and government requirements including tax/license requirements.
- Recruit, train and motivate volunteers to maximize fundraising on behalf of the Aurora Historical Society.
- Team with the Community Relations Advisory Committee to create, develop and implement an annual public relations plan that raises and sustains a positive and visible profile thorough print and electronic media within the Community of Aurora and beyond.
- Maintain a current knowledge, and ability, on software programs pertaining to fundraising records for a charitable organization.
- Actively promote the mission, vision and philosophy of the Aurora Historical Society.

Heritage Symposium 2010

On Wednesday, March 24th, the Aurora Historical Society hosted a Heritage Symposium at the Aurora Cultural Centre. Guest speakers were: Laura Schembri, Executive Director of the Aurora Cultural Centre; Jennifer Steen, Manager Curator, AHS; Susan Walmer, Aurora Community Heritage Fair; Reccia Mandelcorn, Manager of Custom and Circulation Services at the Aurora Public Library; Jacqueline Stuart, Aurora Heritage Advisory Committee and Mai Al Nabhan, Manager of Heritage Planning and Urban Design at the Town of Aurora. Thank you to everyone for presenting!

New Strategic Plan Adopted

From April through August of 2009, the Aurora Historical Society carried out a strategic planning exercise to chart a course for the years ahead. The process included consultation with stakeholder groups and a series of Board meetings to review the results and consider options.
